The latest Pin-TN individual rankings are in, and for the A-AA classification, six wrestlers made the cut of Top Six in each weight classification.
Whitwell, Sequatchie County, and Signal Mountain all placed wrestlers in the ranking, with the Eagles racking up half of the six. John Weiss and crew managed to put two in the ranking while a lone Indian wrestler inched into the top six.
At the 126-pound weight class, Sequatchie County’s Jay Brock (11-3) currently sits at No. 6 behind Mat Tiger Jaren Thames (10-6) at No. 5 in the ranking. Brock, though, holds the head-to-head advantage against Thames with a 9-8 decision back in early December. No. 2 in that weight classification, Kashawn Cosey from East Ridge pinned Brock in early December while No.3 in the weight division, Jordan Lewis downed Thames with a 12-0 major decision.
Down in the 113-pound class, Signal Mountain’s Isaac Tate (9-7) is holding his own with the No. 3 ranking in the state with no other Chattanooga wrestler anywhere in his top six. Tate has wrestled up at times and was downed by the top-ranked 120-pounder Scott Weaver via an 8-3 decision at the Ooltewah Invitational earlier in December.
Also on deck for the Eagles was Daniel Dawson (13-5) who is currently the highest-ranked wrestler from the Valley at No. 2 in the 152-pound weight class. His only losses have come against Central’s Isaac Coffman (ranked No. 2 in 145) by a 6-5 decision, Chattanooga Christian’s Justin Wheeler (Ranked No. 1 in 152 ahead of Dawson) by a 4-2 decision, and three other wrestlers from the stacked AAA division.
In the next class up, Mat Eagle Will Davis (11-6) claimed the No. 5 spot in the top six for the 160-pound class. Davis’ losses came against Warner Ashworth of Whitwell (which was wrestled in the 170-pound weight class), No.2-ranked Zane Williams of Boyd-Buchanan,a dn against four other wrestlers from the AAA division. Davis is the fourth-highest-ranked 160-pound wrestler in the Chattanooga area.
Down to the Valley and up three weight classes, Whitwell’s William Carter (10-2) boasts the No. 6 spot in the 195-pound weight classification. Showing Whitwell’s true strength in the higher weights, Carters’ only losses came against Shelbyville’s Michael Salisbury and Boyd-Buchanan’s Kell Stott by a 7-6 decision. Carter is also the highest ranked wrestler from Chattanooga’s Region 2 in the 195-pound weight class.
