CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.–The Tyner Rams battled to claim a 25-21 win over the visiting Bledsoe County Warriors Friday night in s Region 3-2A showdown.
That battle came down to the last minutes of the play where Tyner used all phases of the game to pull out a 25-21 win at Wayne Turner Field.
“We battled through the whole 48 minutes tonight which is something that we haven’t been able to do all season,” said Tyner head coach Wayne Turner. “If we keep battling through games like that, I think we can close out the season well.”
Offensively, Tyner controlled the line of scrimmage as the Rams rushed for 251 yards and added 293 yards of total offense. KeMarcus Young led the Rams with 73 yards rushing and Keiontae Halfacre added 70 yards rushing. K’un Webb and Devon Waight each added short rushing touchdowns for the Rams.
“I thought we moved the ball well offensively,” said Turner. “The way we moved the ball on the ground made a huge difference in the game tonight.”
The Rams defense came to play on the night as Tyner held Bledsoe County scoreless in the second half. Jaylen Bowens led the Rams’ defense as he added two crucial interceptions, both coming in the second half.
“The turnovers we forced on defense were huge in the outcome of the game,” said Turner. “In a close game like this, we will take anything we can get.”
Both teams got off to a quick start as each team scored on their opening drive of the game. Bledsoe County was the first on the board as Chaise Sorrow scored on a two-yard run. Tyner answered quickly as Shaylen Bailey found Webb on a 20-yard touchdown pass.
The scoring continued early in the second quarter as Joseph Gore scored on an 11-yard run to put Bledsoe County up 14-7. Shortly after, Sorrow found the end zone on a one yard run to put the Warriors up 21-7 with 8:34 left in the first half.
Tyner cut the Warriors led down to 21-13 with a three-yard run from Waight with 4:13 left in the half. The Rams cut the score down, again, to 21-19 right before halftime as Jeremy Elston returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown.
The Rams opened up the second half with a 15 yard rushing touchdown from Webb and that was the last score of the game as the Rams went on to win a crucial 3-2A matchup with playoff implications.
Tyner improves to 2-5 overall with the win as they get ready to face Meigs County out in Decatur for another crucial seeding-based matchup. The Warriors fall to 2-5 overall with the close defeat as they travel down the Valley to face region foe Marion County.
