BASKETBALL: Lawson Twins Improving in Week 3 of CABC Fall League

EAST RIDGE, Tenn.–Sequatchie County’s Braden and Barrett Lawson have been participating in the Chattanooga Area Basketball Club’s Fa League hosted by East Ridge High School Wednesday night.

Bledsoe County’s Riley Meloncon also competed in Flight A, the highest level of players in the league, while fellow Warrior Dawson Frechette competed in the lower Flight B.  It was the third week of play in a league that brings together some of the best players in the Chattanooga area stretching from North Georgia to Division II schools like McCallie and Baylor, and includes players from all divisions of play.

Braden and Barrett Lawson both compete on the ‘Warriors’ team coached by Steven Cook and sit at 0-3 in league play before a loss against the ‘Knicks,’ 57-51 in the final game of the night.  Braden Lawson would score 11 points, including a three-pointer, while Barrett would go scoreless for the matchup.

A lot of the scoring was held up by constant rotations every four minutes of play combined with elite talent.  Both said it was a great opportunity to play against a lot of great competition.  It was evident, though, that while the Lawson Twins were in–together–the scoring slowed down significantly.

Meloncon’s team, the Jazz, were undefeated through two weeks.  That streak came to an end as they took on the also undefeated Cavaliers, which may be the best team in the league at this point, 69-31.  Coached by Trey Suttles, Melancon accumulated 2 points against a far superior team, only spending 20 out of the 40 minutes on the court with constant rotations.

Although only three players represent the Valley in the CABC Fall League, they are gaining unrivaled experience, going toe to toe with the best Chattanooga has to offer.  Look for more coverage of the CABC League at our Twitter page: @SValleySports.

Next week’s games will take place on Thursday September 29 at 6:15, 7:15, and 8:15 Eastern Time.  The Jazz, Meloncon’s team, will play in the first time slot against the Spurs while the Warriors, featuring Braden and Barrett Lawson, will once again be the nightcap as they take on the Bulls.
